Advent Sonnet (Rolf Olson)
In this season of frigid days with dark
And colder nights, the family gathers near,
Rekindling older holidays to spark
Memories of ones we've always held dear.
Around the house and the kitchen table
Our hearts, both young and old, feel freer, lighter
Than when we're left alone. By this we're able
To find our Christmas dreams burn much brighter.
Sometimes the ones around the table are there
In only thought. We find ourselves alone
And feel sadness amid a season of cheer
As we recall those from the table gone.
Let us then rest in faith that those above
Receive the gift of God’s most gracious love.
And colder nights, the family gathers near,
Rekindling older holidays to spark
Memories of ones we've always held dear.
Around the house and the kitchen table
Our hearts, both young and old, feel freer, lighter
Than when we're left alone. By this we're able
To find our Christmas dreams burn much brighter.
Sometimes the ones around the table are there
In only thought. We find ourselves alone
And feel sadness amid a season of cheer
As we recall those from the table gone.
Let us then rest in faith that those above
Receive the gift of God’s most gracious love.
