A Cloudy Christmas
Last year, I wrote about the peace of snow falling at night. This year, we have yet to get an inch of snow. For many people, including myself, it is difficult for it to feel like Christmas when the weather is more reminiscent of late March.
There are several elements that when missing make it not feel like Christmas. Besides snow and typical December temperatures, there is also music, Christmas lights, piles of presents, and the smell of Christmas baking. All are wonderful things, but they are not the true essence of Christmas.
As I touched on in the Kids Christmas Program this year, it doesn’t matter if everything goes perfectly. Even if there’s rain instead of snow on Christmas Eve. Even if you didn’t finish all of your shopping. Even if you aren’t filled with the Christmas spirit like you think you should be.
What is most important is that we are as loving as we can be. Maybe you can joyfully host twenty six people for a grand Christmas dinner. Maybe you can give a kind smile to a stranger that holds the door for you. Continue to share the Christmas spirit to the best of your ability, and light will continue to grow, even when it is dark and dreary out.
